Kim Do-yeon’s family consists of herself, her parents, an older sister born in 1994, and an older brother born in 1996. The idol-turned-actress is known to have graduated from the Acting Department at Seoul Performing Arts High School. When she first appeared, Kim Do-yeon was often called a “little Jeon Ji-hyun” due to her outstanding appearance.

It is known that her specialty was cheerleading, and a video of her cheerleading caught the eyes of a Fantagio official, leading to her getting scouted by the agency. 

Career

“Produce 101” Season 1 & I.O.I

In January 2016, Kim Do-yeon participated in the Mnet reality-survival program “Produce 101” and drew massive attention, eventually ranking 8th in the finale of the show. As a result, she debuted as the member of final group I.O.I with the single “Dream Girls” in 2016. Since I.O.I is a project group, it ended up eventually disbanding in 2017.

Weki Meki and WJMK

In August 2017, Kim Do-yeon made her debut as a member of Fantagio girl group Weki Meki and released the EP “Weme” alongside the title “I Don’t Like Your Girlfriend”. In June 2018, she formed a special 4-member unit named WJMK with fellow Weki Meki member Choi Yoo-jung and Cosmic Girls (WJSN) members Seola and Luda.

Throughout her time as a Weki Meki member, Do-yeon often made appearances on K-dramas and variety shows, earning attention as a solo artist. Additionally, Weki Meki eventually disbanded in 2024.

Acting Ventures 

Kim Do-yeon made her acting debut as a supporting character in a drama titled “Short”. 

She later assumed various supporting roles and younger versions of female leads in K-dramas such as “My Roommate Is a Gumiho”, “One the Woman”,  and“Jirisan”. Kim Do-yeon also starred in “Amoeba Girls and School Ghost Story”, which was recognized as “Bucheon Discovery of the Year” at the Bucheon International Fantastic Film Festival

Most recently, she made a successful theatrical debut via the play “Anna X”. Since this is a two-person play, the stage may feel simple, but the moment Kim Do-yeon delivers her lines on stage, the entire atmosphere of the stage changes. Kim Do-yeon, who plays not only the free-spirited “Anna” but also other characters, pours out her lines without hesitation, perfectly distinguishing each character without any sense of incongruity.

Despite this being her first play, Kim Do-yeon is drawing enthusiastic responses from the audience by increasing the character synchronization rate with her stable tone and unique atmosphere. 

After Kim Do-yeon’s performance, reviews continued to appear such as, “She effectively portrayed Anna’s loveliness, shamelessness, and her own Anna with her own unique solutions”, “Kim Do-yeon is Anna herself”, “Her voice is so good”, “Good acting persuades the audience. Anna did that”, and “Even though she was only wearing a white T-shirt and jeans, Anna’s glamor was felt in her acting.”

Studying Abroad

In August 2024, Kim Do-yeon shared updates on her study abroad experience in the UK through her SNS channel, drawing attention. It was speculated that the idol-turned-actress was studying English and acting for several months in London.
